All projects above have been reviewed by the LibreTech Collective at Georgia Tech and approved for development by LTC. These licenses are all GPL compatible, meaning they respect your freedom to run, study, share, and modify the code.

These projects are all either run by Georgia Tech students, faculty, or alumni - or are large community-based projects (like Apache & Apereo) based here at Georgia Tech.

Anyone can apply for submission to the list. The two qualifications are that the project must have some sort of tie to Georgia Tech and have a GPL compatible license.

Being on this list means your project is recognized by the LibreTech Collective as upholding software freedom principles and connects you with the Georgia Tech free & open-source community.

A GPL compatible license is one that allows code to be combined with GPL-licensed code. This includes licenses like MIT, Apache 2.0, BSD, and of course, the GPL itself.

These licenses all share the common goal of protecting user freedoms - the freedom to use, study, modify, and share software. They ensure that software remains free and open for everyone.

Per LibreTech policy, all projects worked on by the club must be free as in freedom. Meaning it respects your 4 freedoms.

Access to source code (e.g. open-source) is only a requirement of 2 of the 4 freedoms, and thus alone is not sufficent to be considered free as in freedom. When most people say "open-source", they're really referring to free software, but it can often times lead to confusion when the topic of source available software comes up.

Source available only license (e.g. BSL, SSPL, etc.) are not considered free software and thus are not allowed.

To see if your license is free as in freedom, visit this site - all green and some orange licenses are permissible for acceptance onto this list. If you see a license not listed, please reach out to us for clarification.
